Rome is a city of ancient ruins, fountains and lively piazzas. It’s a busy capital, and we haven’t yet found venues there that give an elopement the privacy and calm we’d want for you.
This guide covers the best time to go, how a ceremony works, getting around, and where else in Italy you might look instead.
The best time to go
Timing is everything in Rome. The best months are in spring and autumn, either side of the summer crowds.
April and May are pleasant, and the city is in bloom. October and November have a softer light. July and August are very hot, and the city is full.
Legal or symbolic?
Most couples have a symbolic ceremony at their venue and complete the legal marriage at home. We can also arrange a legal ceremony in Italy. It needs more paperwork and more time, and the town hall fees are separate.
Getting around
Rome’s historic centre limits cars. Driving in without a permit brings a fine.
The simplest answer is to book a private driver, known in Italy as NCC.
Photography in Rome
We’ve photographed weddings in Rome, and the light and the crowds shape the whole day there. If you can, start early. At sunrise the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum are quiet, and the soft morning light makes the old stone glow.
